I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon in Sheffield, UK. My NHS practice is based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital and private practice based at Claremont Private Hospital.   My areas of expertise include cataract surgery (including complex cases), vitreo-retinal surgery (including retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreous haemorrhage and floaters and diabetic eye disease) and general ophthalmology.

I graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Malta in 2004. I then moved to the UK where I completed Ophthalmology specialist training in Scotland, before undergoing specialized training in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery in Aberdeen, UK (2012-13).  I was appointed as a Consultant in Aberdeen in 2014, after which I completed further Fellowship training in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery in Sydney Eye Hospital, Australia (2015), before being appointed as a Consultant in Sheffield in 2016. During my career I have been awarded numerous prizes including the Bayer Educational Grant Award, Novartis Retina Case Study Award, Pfizer Scottish Ophthalmological Travel Award and BriSCEV (British Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision) Prize.  In 2011, I was awarded an EU-funded Scholarship and completed a Masters of Science (MSc) post-graduate degree in “Clinical Visual Science”, with Distinction.

I am an author and co-author of numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and have co-authored two book chapters.

As an Honorary Senior Lecturer for the University of Sheffield, I teach ophthalmology to medical students in my clinics and theatres at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, and take part in undergraduate admission interviews.   I also teach ophthalmology trainees in clinics and surgery, and train vitreo-retinal fellows.  I am an Educational Supervisor to junior ophthalmologists, as well as a Microsurgical Skills Trainer for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

I am a member or fellow of the following:
